The Raider Regiment is composed of all Marching Band and Colorguard students. These students compete throughout Southern California in two disciplines. The first is “Parade” in which the Band and Colorguard march down the street in a block formation. The second is “Field” in which the performers participate in a half-time type show. The Raider Regiment also performs at all Sonora Football Games.
The Symphonic Band meets 0 and 1st period from mid-November through mid-June. Students perform in concerts at various venues on and off campus as well as at SCSBOA festivals for a rating.
The Jazz band meets after school starting in November and plays at various events and concerts throughout the second semester.
String Orchestra meets during the school day to learn the orchestral string instruments (Violin, Viola, Cell, and Bass).
The Winterguard at Sonora competes in the Winter Guard Association of Southern California. These members also perform in the Raider Regiment. Their routines utilize various types of equipment including Flags, Rifles, and Sabres, all set to choreography on gym floors, streets, and football fields.
The Winter Drumline is made up of a group of students who compete in high school gyms. Their show includes music written for a “battery” section (marching equipment) and a “pit” section (mallets and auxiliary). They compete in the American Drum Line Association. This group has members from both the band and the school at large.
